Creating a shaded space with an electronically operated awning
The client
A homeowner who lives in Chepstow.
What they needed
This particular customer initially came to us because she wanted to be able to sit outside and relax in her garden, as well as use it to catch up with friends. However, given the unpredictable nature of the great British weather, she was prevented from fully enjoying her garden.
She therefore reached out to us to see if we could provide her with a sheltered area that would not just provide protection from the rain, but the sun’s UV rays on a hot summer’s day.
The challenges
There was an old timber pergola at the back of the property that was situated exactly where our customer wanted us to create the shaded area. Our first task therefore involved dismantling and disposing of the old pergola.
Our solution
When our customer originally contacted us, she thought that a veranda was the ideal shade-providing solution. However, in order to provide her with the shade and shelter she required, the veranda would have had to have been upgraded to a tinted glass, which would have taken our customer over her budget. Meanwhile, the alternative solution, an opaque polycarbonate roofing panel structure, wasn’t what she had in mind.
So, after taking the time to fully understand her needs, we recommended she invest in a retractable awning, which would provide her with plenty of shelter and shade and, more importantly, fit within her cost requirements.
We installed a 3.4m long x 3m wide, electronically-operated awning, which swiftly opens and closes at the touch of a button.
The end result
Our customer can now enjoy her garden on her own, or with family and friends, with complete flexibility, regardless of what the weather’s doing . What’s more, she has a solution in place that is easy to operate, fully meets her needs and didn’t take her over budget.
